Lumyeye - AI app for blind and low-vision users

User Guide

Lumyeye Pro User Guide.

Last updated: May 21, 2026. 12 features explained step-by-step for using Lumyeye Pro every day. iOS 17.6+ exclusive.

Before you start

  • Download: open the App Store on your iPhone, search for "Lumyeye Pro" and install. Lumyeye Pro is exclusive to iOS 17.6+.
  • First launch: grant camera, microphone, location and notification permissions. Without the camera, no image analysis; without the microphone, no voice control; without location, no "Where am I?" and no nearby search.
  • Free trial: Lumyeye Pro offers 40 free queries on opening, with no credit card and no account required. A subscription only starts if you choose to continue.

1. Talking to Lumyeye

We wanted to give you full control over when the application listens to you. This means there is no permanent listening and no unnecessary background noise.

When Lumyeye says "Standby", you decide when to speak: tap once on the screen. If you use VoiceOver, double-tap.

You can also interrupt a response at any time: tap once on the screen, or double-tap with VoiceOver. Lumyeye will stop immediately.

2. Reading, identifying, or describing

Thanks to the camera, Lumyeye can read a document, summarize it, identify an object, or describe a scene around you.

It can be a photo, a plant to know if it needs water, a dog to identify its breed, a letter, an administrative document, or anything else you can take a picture of.

You can also ask a question before the photo is even taken. For example: "Summarize this document and tell me if I have anything to do." Lumyeye can summarize the document and check whether it contains an important action, such as a payment to make, an email to send, or a response to give.

For example, say: "Photo, what is this?"

3. Emergency Mode with Vision Live

Emergency Mode with Vision Live was created for situations where regular photos are not enough to find an object or get the information you need.

In this mode, Lumyeye takes about one photo per second and analyzes it in real time. You can slowly scan the room 360 degrees with your phone, ask questions, and get more dynamic answers.

Say: "Vision mode".
You can then ask: "Where is the door?" or "Can you see my bag?"

This mode is limited to 2 minutes per day because it requires a lot of artificial intelligence processing and battery power.

4. Describing photos from your phone

Why shouldn't a visually impaired or blind person be able to browse their photos like everyone else? With Lumyeye, this is now possible.

Say: "Open my photos".
Browse your camera roll, choose a photo, and Lumyeye will give you a precise description of the selected image.

If you wish, Lumyeye can also offer an even more detailed description. You can take photos, save them to your camera roll, and have them described at any time.

5. Finding your location and starting a route

Lumyeye can help you in two ways.

If you want guidance, the app can open Google Maps directly with the address you requested.

If you only want a summary, Lumyeye can give you the main information about the trip. Each time, you can choose whether you want to travel on foot, by bus, by metro, or by car.

Ask: "Where am I?" to know your current location.
You can also say: "Take me to the pharmacy."

At the end of the journey, to return to Lumyeye PRO, you will need to use Siri or reopen the app manually, because Google Maps does not allow Lumyeye to automatically take control again once it has been opened.

6. Getting live information

You can ask Lumyeye for useful live information.

For example:

  • "What will the weather be like tomorrow?"
  • "What are the opening hours of my town hall?"
  • "What is the latest news in the Middle East?"

Once you have the information, you can continue asking questions or request more specific details.

7. Sending a digital postcard by email

Even though Lumyeye does not read your Gmail emails, we wanted to make it easy for you to send text or a photo by email, like a digital postcard.

Say: "I want to send an email."

The application will ask who you want to send it to. If the contact is recognized, Lumyeye will use it directly. Otherwise, we recommend spelling the email address letter by letter for better recognition.

Lumyeye will then ask for the subject of the email and finally the content. The app will summarize everything and ask for your confirmation before sending it.

The email will be sent from a Lumyeye address, in your name. The recipient will receive it, but will not be able to reply directly to that message. It is an instant message, like a postcard.

Another useful option: if Lumyeye has just read you some information and you want to keep it, simply say: "Send this by email." The last answer, search result, or photo can then be sent directly to your email address.

8. Sending a text message or making a call

To send a text message from your phone and your own number, say: "Send a text message to [contact name]."

Lumyeye will ask you for the message content, then ask you to confirm. The app will then open the Messages app. You will only need to confirm with the Send button.

Once the text message has been sent, you will automatically return to Lumyeye.

To call one of your contacts, say: "Call [contact name]."

Lumyeye will start the call. At the end of the call, you will also automatically return to the Lumyeye app.

9. Creating appointments and timers

To create an appointment, say: "Calendar" and let Lumyeye guide you.

The app will ask you for the day, time, and subject of the appointment. It will then confirm that the event has been added to your calendar, with two alerts before the appointment directly on your iPhone.

To start a timer, say for example: "Set a timer for 5 minutes."

Lumyeye will confirm the timer. After 5 minutes, you will receive a notification from the app with a message telling you that the time is up.

10. Keeping memos

We developed this feature to help you remember everyday information, such as a Wi-Fi code, where you left your keys, or any important information you may want to retrieve later.

Three commands are available:

  • "Memo save"
  • "Memo read"
  • "Memo delete"

For example, say: "Memo, save my Wi-Fi code is 7332."

Later, you can ask: "Memo read: what is my Wi-Fi code?"
Lumyeye will give you the saved information.

And if you say: "Memo delete my Wi-Fi code", Lumyeye will delete that information.

11. Checking the battery

At any time, you can ask: "How much battery is left?"

Lumyeye will tell you your phone's battery level. If your phone is plugged in and charging, Lumyeye will also let you know.

→ Watch the video demo

12. Playing your favorite music with Spotify

To play music, say for example: "Play Purple Rain by Prince on Spotify."

Lumyeye will open Spotify, play the music, and then return to the Lumyeye app.

When you want to stop the music, simply say: "Stop the music."

Accessibility and VoiceOver

  • VoiceOver compatible: Lumyeye Pro works with VoiceOver enabled. All elements are labelled and navigable.
  • Usable without VoiceOver: Lumyeye Pro includes its own natural voice. No re-learning needed if you don't want (or no longer want) to use VoiceOver.
  • Text size: the app honors iOS Dynamic Type settings.
  • Contrast: light mode, dark mode and high-contrast mode are available.

Privacy

  • Your photos are sent to the AI server, analyzed, then deleted immediately after the answer is read out. No photo is kept.
  • Voice requests are not kept beyond the processing time.
  • AI hosting is in the European region.
  • No data resale, no in-app ads, no third-party cookies.
  • Full details: privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

Lumyeye does not respond / no sound

  • Check your iPhone volume.
  • Make sure the iPhone is not in silent mode (side switch).
  • If you use VoiceOver, check that VoiceOver has not taken over the audio output.
  • Close and relaunch the app.

"No Internet connection"

  • Lumyeye Pro needs Internet to analyze photos (the AI runs on a server).
  • Check your Wi-Fi or 4G/5G.
  • If you are in a weak coverage area, move closer to a window or a known access point.

Camera, microphone or location permission denied

  • Camera / Microphone: Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera (or Microphone) > enable the Lumyeye toggle.
  • Location: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Lumyeye > "While Using the App".

The subscription does not activate

  • Verify the payment was confirmed in the App Store.
  • Force-quit Lumyeye Pro and relaunch.
  • In Lumyeye Pro, tap "Restore purchases" in the settings.

The AI's answer seems wrong

AI is a tool. If the answer seems inconsistent:

  • Retake the photo with better lighting and a closer framing.
  • Rephrase the question ("read only the total", "specify the brand").
  • For critical decisions (medication, safety, legal), confirm with a qualified human.
